Living in Port Douglas back in 2006, a skipper of mine asked me to come to work in his sail loft. l did not know it at the time but that moment changed my life. I found I loved creating products that were functional, looked fantastic and gave people pleasure.
Welcome, my name is Sue Bumstead and sailing has been a passion of mine since early childhood and l am grateful that l have been able to incorporate this passion for sailing and racing into my work life. My years of experience in recreational sailing, cruising and competitive racing gives me an insights that few people have in this industry. I have hands on experience with the practical function required by each job .
After completing my sailmakers apprenticeship I moved to Valencia, Spain, “Home to the America’s Cup”. There I worked at North Sails and Vella Lluch allowed me to work on many European boats such as Beneteau, Jeanneau, Dufour and Lagoon. Upon returning to Australia to live in Melbourne I continued to hone my marine trimming skills, working on everything from tinnies, international cadets, Sydney 38s … to Riviera’s, Caribbean, Mustang, Maritimo and everything in between.
